As of right now Garret Ellwood is a Denver based photographer who can be seen at many Denver home sports games. He started in 1995 as an assistant photographer for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Kings. In 1998 he moved to charlotte was given the opportunity to be the photographer for the Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers. He was offered an opportunity to go back home to Denver and be the photographer for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rapids in 2002. Garret Ellwood has been one of the top photographers in the world as he has been to 22 NBA Finals, 3 Superbowls, 5 Olympic games, and many other achievements.
Ellwoods work is pictures of many sports athletes weather it is team pictures, in game situations for an athlete or them showing their emotions. One of his most famous pictures that he took was in 2010 after the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA finals and Kobe jumped on one of the sports broadcasters table and yelled into the crowd. It was arguably one of the most memorable moments in the 2010 decade for the NBA.
Ellwood has recently blown up over the past few years due to him producing these “spotlight” photos. He’s been working on photos like these since 2014, but in 2018 he truly perfected making the spotlight photos as now you can’t see the fans in the stands compared to when he first started you can still notice the fans cheering. The reason he started doing this was to give a players perspective on how it feels when they play. As for players when they’re playing they don’t notice the fans in the stands cheering due to them being so focused in the games.
The pictures of Ellwoods work are well done as he seems to capture a perfect angle of each shot which is amazing. The NBA has high regards for him as year after year he is welcomed to take photos of NBA finals games, as well as NBA All-Star games.
